Druk Path Trek

Parts of this trek follow the old route between Paro and Thimphu, crossing the chain of mountains that separates the two valleys. The route is sparsely inhabited (by nomadic yak herders) but there are wonderful lakes teeming with fish and the area is known for spectacular rhododendron forests which bloom in April & May. In the clear weathers of late autumn and winter, great views of the Himalayas can be seen as most parts of this trek is along the ridge.


Day 1

Arrival at Paro airport. Receive by our guide and transfer to Paro town. After lunch, Paro sightseeing- visit of Paro National Museum, Paro Rinpung Dzong, walk down to wooden cantilever footbridge and free time around Paro town. Paro Halt.

Day 2

Start early morning for the day hike to Tiger's Nest (Taktsang Temple)... one of the most sacred holy sites in Bhutan. The hike takes about 6-7 hours which would give good preparation for the trek to start from next day. Can have hot lunch on the mid way in Taktsang Cafeteria, where you are served vegetarian food along with egg curry. Later visit of ruined Drugyel Dzong - 'The Victorious Fort' (presently under renovation), Oldest Temple - Kichu Lhakhang built in 659 AD. Overnight in Hotel at Paro.

Day 3

Early morning preparation for the Trek. After breakfast in hotel, drive to National Museum and the feeder road after the Museum can lead further up to 6 kms, from where the trek starts. The trekking crew along with the horses to carry your stuffs would be waiting. The day's trail climbs non stop for over more than 1000m before little descend to the night camp halt, walking through the blue pines forest, few farm houses. You would enjoy beautiful Paro valley below and up on the ridge, you can see old fort-Jili Dzong at Alt. 3595m. The trail climbs further up passing over a small pass at Alt 3518m. You can come across Yak herders along with Yaks and their dogs. Overnight campsite near to Jili Dzong.

Day 4

After the dzong, disappearing into the pine forest, cross the ridge at 3700m. Looking back, you would see part of Paro valley and Doo chu valley too. To the south Dagala range is visible. After day walk of about 5 - 6 hours, will reach to camp site at Tshokam.

Day 5

Tshokam to Jimilang Tsho for the day walk takes about 7 hours, climbing to small Pass at Alt 4070. Can have good view of snowy peak Himalayas, some Monasteries down the Paro valley could be visible as well. After 3 hours of walk, can view the lake(jimilang Tsho) where would be doing night camping(3880 m). Many Yak herders also do the camping around this area.

Day 6

The day trek takes about 7 8 hours, towards Phajoding, passing by rhododendron bushes and other wild flowers. You can see few lakes around which are considered sacred lakes and must not be polluted, which could result is sudden bad weather. will be crossing height of maximum 4100 m, before reaching to overnight campsite at Phajoding, where there is very old Phajoding monastery and you can have nice view below of Thimphu city.

Day 7

Start the day walk early morning after breakfast, descending down to Thimphu valley, which would take about 4 hours, later at lower valley you would be passing through dense pine forest and rodhodendron tress. You will rrive at Sangaygang, where you can see high Radio Broadcasting BBS tower, where your car will be waiting to drive you down to hotel in Thimphu. Overnight in Hotel.

Day 8

Whole day Thimphu sightseeing- visiting Memorial Chorten, built in memory of 3rd King, Buddha Point, one of the largest sitting Buddha statue sitting at height of 206feet, Zoo to see unique Bhutan National animal - Takin, further drive down to Nunnery view point for short photo stop of Trashichhodzong, Parliament House, Supreme Court and the King's Linkhana Palace. After lunch visit vegetable market, Craft market, art school, and free time around central part of town where you can see the traffic police controlling the traffic at the central junction. Overnight in Thimphu hotel.

Day 9

Drive back to Paro airport, an hour drive for departure flight.
